Introduction to Cartoon Storytelling

Instructor: Steven Fischer

Tuesdays, 6:00 p.m. — 7:30 p.m.

Dates: Oct 19, 26, Nov 2, 9, 16, 23

Location: Chicago Room

This course is for anyone who has an interest in expressing themselves through cartoons and those interested in cartoons as an art form. This class is about realizing the potential of becoming a cartoonist no matter your skill level. This course is intended to introduce students to the possibilities cartooning offers as a vehicle to express and communicate effectively. Students should realize that while commercial cartooning may require certain skills and abilities, the only limitation in the art of cartoon storytelling are those self-imposed. Anyone willing to express him or herself honestly can create a legitimate comic. Our objective is to create and complete an original story with original characters.

*Supplies are included.

Withdrawal and Refund Policy

1 session courses are nonrefundable.

Withdrawal deadline: 2 business days before the start of your registered course

The Mini Courses Program does not issue full or partial refunds for lack of attendance or indifference to the course curriculum. Refunds may be requested for most Mini Courses through the purchase of a $15.00 Mini Course Cancellation Fee on the http://nbo.northwestern.edu website two business days before the start of the first meeting of the class, for each intended withdrawal. No other cancellation fee purchased on this website will be accepted to withdraw from a Mini Course. Full refunds will be given for classes canceled by Mini Courses due to a lack of enrollment.

NO REFUNDS will be provided if a withdrawal is requested after two business days prior to when the first session meets.

Refunds are NOT possible after October 14, 2021.

How will safety guidelines be followed?

All classes taking place in person will be following social distancing and mask wearing guidelines. In-person classes that take place indoors will have a strict student limit so as not to overcrowd a classroom.

Vaccination and Masking Policy
All Northwestern members must follow Northwestern’s vaccination’s requirements.
Community members will need to provide proof of vaccination if attending an in-person class. All in-person students must follow Northwestern's face coverings and masking policy.

Subsidy (Grant) Assistance for Northwestern Students

Northwestern students can apply for subsidy funding by completing this form.

Subsidies range from $10.00 - $30.00. The Mini Course Program has limited funding, so we rely on an honor system to ensure that funding is granted to those who need it. Proof of income is not necessary to qualify for a subsidy.

If you are approved for one, the subsidy is good for one course per person per quarter. It is applied as a discount to the registration fee at the time of registration. Subsidies are never given as refunds to prior registrations.

Limitations

- Subsidies may not be applied to One-Session Courses or any Drink courses.
- Subsidies are not granted to students who have already registered for a course.
- Subsidies may not be used in combination with any other discount.

-Withdrawal fees and policies are applicable on all subsidy assistance registrations
