The Northwestern Prison
Education Program (NPEP) and its undergraduate affiliate, the Undergraduate
Prison Education Partnership (UPEP), are hosting their first annual Gala and
Exhibition for Prison Education to bring together alumni, faculty, and valued members
of the community to celebrate the accomplishments of the Northwestern Prison
Education Program at Stateville Correctional Center and Cook County Department
The Gala and Exhibition
will feature light appetizers, a silent auction, and keynote speakers, to
include the Director of NPEP, Jennifer Lackey, and Andre Joachim, a formerly
incarcerated PhD candidate. Messages, writing, and artwork by Stateville
prisoners receiving college credit through our program will be proudly shared
with our guests during the Exhibition.
NPEP is a partnership
between Northwestern University and the Illinois Department of Corrections to
provide a liberal arts education to the incarcerated community at Stateville
Correctional Center. NPEP works to provide educational opportunities that would
otherwise be unavailable to the incarcerated community to lower recidivism
rates and improve quality of life.
UPEP supports NPEP and
its mission by hosting fundraising and campus awareness events on the Evanston
campus, organizing workshops for the Stateville student cohort, and providing
tutors and academic supplies for the program.
General admission and Supporter status tickets are available. Supporter status ticketholders receive reserved, priority seating and a thank-you gift. We look forward to seeing you!
