Event Information
Update and expand your knowledge of China by attending the Annual China Symposium 2009, which presents speakers from Chicago-land universities, museums, and other organizations who will discuss key topics relating to Chinese society, culture, commerce and politics--past and present. The symposium was organized under the auspices of the US China Peoples Friendship Association-Chicago Chapter and is proudly hosted by Northwestern University's Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Program.

The day begins with four (4) morning talks by Northwestern Ph.D. candidates in sociology, art history, and political science. The main afternoon program consists of a keynote address on the Pacifist Tradition in China, followed by nine (9) talks presented on three (3) simultaneous tracks--Arts & Philosophy, Commerce, and Society, Science & Technology. (For a more detailed look at the planned topics, please refer to the schedule below).

The symposium is just one of several events scheduled during the Annual China Festival 2009. While at Norris, be sure to look for the Annual China Friendship/Beijing Art Exhibit 2009 in the Dittmar Gallery. Also, don't miss the Beijing Performing Arts Gala 2009 at Cahn Auditorium on December 4 and 5. (Tickets will be available soon on this web site).
